The Putna Monastery 

 

   It  houses  nuns.

  Location 

in the Putna commune, in the Suceava county, to 62 km north west of Suceava, 28 km west of Radauti.

  The Wooden Church 

is built by oak and it is the oldest wooden church from Moldavia. It was built about 1346 by Dragos Voda or Bogdan I. It was transported to Putna by Stefan cel Mare si Sfant prince in 1468. The Bartolomeu Mazareanu arhimandrit modified the architecture, in 1788.

  The Wall Church 

dedicated to "Adormirea Maicii Domnului" was founded by Voievod Stefan cel Mare si Sfant, between 1466 and 1469, as a fortress. Now, you can see just the thesaurus’ tower, built in 1481.

  The Church 

was built after the old schemes by Vasile Lupu, Gheorghe Stefan and Eustatie Dabija princes. It has elements of Moldavian baroque.

The Putna Monastery

  The monastery’s museum accommodates the "Tetraevangheliarul", handwriting on the parchment, in 1473, by ierom. Nicodim from Humor and Maria de Mangop’s shrine, since 1477. Here is a piece of the Holy Daniil Sihastru relics (one finger).

   Here are, too, the shrines of Stefan cel Mare si Sfant and his wives Maria de Mangop and Maria Voichita.

   On the east side there are the cave and "bisericuta rupestra" (the small ancient church) where lived Daniil Sihastru
