Neamt Monastery - Its patron is
"Saint George". It houses monks.
in the Vanatori commune, in Neamt county, 17-km north-west
of Targu Neamt.
Initially, it was built as a wooden hermitage and given with the
villages and lands, in Petru Musat reign (1376 – 1392); he convert in a monastery with
stone church, with cells and towers, as a fortress. It was re-founded and completed with
houses and belfry by Alexandru cel Bun. The belfry is the unique piece of epoch
that is in a good situation since beginning 15th century .

Church is dedicated to "Inaltarea Domnului" and
it was re-built by Stefan cel Mare si Sfant prince, in 1497, in the same place with
an old wooden church from 14th century.
The architecture is in Moldavian style. The exterior
walls are richness with ornamental motive and the steeple is with gothic elements. The
fresco pictures, realized in 1497, are conserved in the principal apse, the altar, the
nave and shines’ place; the pictures from pre-nave and threshold are since Petru
Rares reigns.
is dedicated to "Sfantul Gheorghe" and was built
to the end of 18th century (about 1796). It was re-built in the same place with
Petru Rares’s stone church by Dometian abbot, in 1826, in neoclassic style
The Old Church is dedicated to "Adormirea
Maicii Domnului" and was founded by Veniamin Costachi Metropolitan, in 1809.
dedicated to "Sfantul Ioan cel Nou" were built in
1846 the old church was sanatorium, too, where Mihai Eminescu life some time.
The Neamt Monastery was an important center of culture (calligraphy,
miniatures and printings). The first typography of the Neamt Monastery was founded by Veniamin
Costachi Metropolitan, in 1808.
The monastery accommodates the relics discovered in 1986; in this place,
two "Hodighitria" icons since 15th century and well-known wonder make
"Lidianca" (a gift to Alexandru cel Bun from Ioan al VIII-lea
Paleologu, in 1407). Here is one of the oldest Romanian libraries, a museum with
valuable objects of medieval art, manuscript between 14th and 19th
centuries and cult objects.
